چکیده

This extended abstract reports our on-going work on how to control and ensure smoothness of traffic flows using the sliding mode control theory. The preliminary results suggest that our approach is highly promising, and more results are expected in the near future. † 1 General Increase-Decrease Flow Control Model A key issue in control of packet flows is the increasedecrease (I-D) control system model, A network system can be described by , (1)  u t x g t x f x ) , ( ) , ( + = where t is the time variable, f and g is a smooth function. x stands for the state variable of the network dynamics, and u the control input. Eq. (1) defines a very general case. y is a function of x, , R , R ∈ ∈ u x n ) , ( t x h y = . (2)  The I-D controllers have three states, increase, decrease and maintaining. shows the general I-D control system model. The overall I-D control rule is defined by: Figure 1 Figure 1: Network system with a general I-D controller. , (3) 

Traffic Flow Characteristics of Isolated Off-ramps in Iranian Expressways

The purpose of this study was to investigate traffic flow characteristics at off-ramp junctions in Iranian expressways. The study was conducted on the traffic behavior in isolated off-ramp vicinity of 6-lane expressways. The database consisted of traffic flow and traffic speed information extracted from videotapes. The relationship between diverging traffic flow in the right lane of expressway ...

Behavioral Analysis of Traffic Flow for an Effective Network Traffic Identification

Fast and accurate network traffic identification is becoming essential for network management, high quality of service control and early detection of network traffic abnormalities. Techniques based on statistical features of packet flows have recently become popular for network classification due to the limitations of traditional port and payload based methods. In this paper, we propose a metho...

Method of Video-Measurements of Traffic Flow Characteristics at a Road Junction

In the theory of traffic flows the main characteristics are: intensity, speed, and density.  They make it possible to use hydrodynamic models. In connection with the development of modern highways and road networks, traffic flows behavior is becoming more and more complex and diverse. In particular, the B.Kerner studies have shown that the laminar solution of hydrodynamic models is poorly corre...

Performance Analysis on Path Rerouting Algorithms for Handoff Control in Mobile ATM Networks

This paper studies mobile-generated traffic distributions in mobile ATM networks and evaluates the performance of path rerouting algorithms for handoff control. In mobile ATM networks, user mobility and handoff path rerouting may produce extra traffic load over network links, requiring larger network capacity to support the same QoS. In this paper, we propose a flow model for mobile ATM network...

Developing a Model of Heterogeneity in Driver’s Behavior

Intelligent Driver Model (IDM) is a well-known microscopic model of traffic flow within the traffic engineering societies. While it is a powerful technique for modeling traffic flows, the Intelligent Driver Model lacks the potential of accommodating the notion of drivers’ heterogeneous behavior whenever they are on roads. Concerning the above mentioned, this paper takes the lane to recognize th...
